Sri Gopinath Gaudiya Math in Vrindavan
Sri Vrindavana Temple

Our beloved Param Gurudev, His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Promode Puri Goswami Maharaj, established the beautiful Gopinath Gaudiya Math in Vrndavana in 1995 at the humble request of his disciples. The mission of the Gopinath Gaudiya Math and the 15 permanent residents who serve the Deities is to help people to understand the value and purpose of this human birth, to inspire them to reach the ultimate goal of life through sincere spiritual practices including chanting the Hare Krsna Mahamantra and serving the Lord’s devotees under the guidance of a qualified spiritual master.

The temple has a long history, as it was built 180 years ago by a Royal family of West Bengal. The building has been constructed with red stone and fancy designs. The deities in this temple also have a long and very special history. On the left altar is Sri Sri Gaura Nityananda Prabhu. These deities were installed by Virabhadra Prabhu (the son of Nityananda Prabhu). In the middle is Sri Dauji who is 180 years old, as old as the temple. On the right side is Sri Sri Radha Govinda. They originally belonged to Tappan Mishra, the father of Raghunath Bhatta Goswami (one of the six Goswamis). Mahaprabhu and also Sanatan Goswami visited Sri Sri Radha Govinda in Tappan Mishra’s house in Kashi (Varanasi). Originally these dieties were there, but in 2001, by the mercy of His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Pramode Puri Goswami Maharaj, Tappan Mishra’s family members where inspired to transfer the service of these dieties to our temple in Vrindavan.

There is a beautiful garden space in the middle of the temple area, right next to the altar. Beautiful Tulsi plants grow there as well as jasmine trees. There is a book stall and a library for devotees to browse and purchase books on transcendental topics. The temple is located in Vrindavan town, 140 km from the city of Dehli, the capital of India. It is also very near Gopeswar temple. The name of the Vrindavan temple is Purana Dauji Mandir, which means Old Dauji temple. The climate is dry with extreme heat in summer and cold in winter. During winter months (December and January) there are large amounts of fog. Regarding wildlife, there are many hogs, peacocks, monkeys and cows.

There is capacity to sleep 80 devotees and there are endless possibilities for service for any pilgrims who make their way here, including devotional book printing and distribution, Deity worship (cooking, making flower and Tulsi garlands, bathing, cleaning the temple, cleaning utensils, sewing Deity outfits, making/sponsoring jewels), cooking for devotees and distributing Prasad, cleaning the temple campus and guesthouse, taking care of Tulsi and flower gardens, caring for the 6 cows in the Gosala, maintaining the temple office and receiving, attending to and seeing off devotees and guests. If you are unable to travel to India, seva is still possible by inspiring materialistic people to practice the path of devotion with chanting Hare Krishna Mahamantra in order to deliver them from this miserable planet earth. Recently our disciples and students have started Bhakti Vinodalaya (which means House of Bhakti Vinod Thakur) programs; in-house devotional programs in order to inspire devotees to chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra and to follow Vaisnava principles sincerely. We welcome anyone around the world to open their house for a Bhakti Vinodalaya program in order to serve our Sampradaya, Sri Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya-Saraswata lineage.
